Excited to share the Publishers Weekly announcement of my picture book, Rights Report: Week of November 29, 2021 (publishersweekly.com)
Raquel grew up in Los Angeles, the daughter of Latinx immigrant parents, who instilled in her a deep love of reading and learning. Her debut picture book, VIVA'S VOICE, will be released Fall 2022 by Kind World Publishing. It is inspired by her own experience going with her dad to the picket line for the first time.
For over two decades, Raquel has led nonprofits and foundations commited to creating better opportunities for children and their families. This passion and activism was sparked as a young, single mom raising a Latinx/Black son. In 2020, she completed her doctorate in Education Leadership.
Her books are inspired by the sights, sounds, and flavors of the world around her. Raquel is the mother of two sons and lives with her husband in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Debuting Fall 2022, Viva's Voice is the story of five-year-old Viva who convinces Papi to take her to the picket line. When quiet Papi is too nervous to give his speech, Viva uses her voice to help him find the confidence to use his own.
This book was inspired by my own childhood experience on the picket line with my father who was a Los Angeles bus driver and on strike many times when I was young. Publication is set for August 2022.
